Welcome to my website! I began writing books in 1983 and in a career spanning 35 years I have had more than 100 published, by Oxford University Press, Kingfisher, Walker Books, Franklin Watts, Dorling Kindersley and others.
Most of them are illustrated information books for children, but I have also written children’s stories, and several books for adults. Some have won prizes: Pirate Diary (Walker Books) won a Smarties silver prize, and a Blue Peter award. Three other books reached the Royal Society science prize shortlist.
I didn't just write books: I wrote restaurant reviews, corporate reports, TV scripts and museum interpretation, and I have appeared on TV and radio.
I have retired now, and live with my wonderful wife Mary in Hastings, a coastal town in England's southeast corner.
